Kitchenlab at the Alt_Cph 16 Crossscuts
2. September 2016 @ 08:00 - 4. September 2016 @ 17:00
Kitchenlab stops at the Copenhagen’s alternative art fair Alt_Cph 16 Crossscuts, which takes place between September 2-4 2016 at The Factory of Art & Design. In 2016 Copenhagen’s alternative art fair Alt_Cph gathers platforms and initiatives working beyond the scope of the conventional artist-run space. The invited participants share an artistic practice that is crosscutting with everyday systems and structures, making them products of their surroundings, and vice versa.
Kitchenlab is a project and a biochemical lab developed by TOP, a Berlin-based association for the Promotion of Cultural Practice. The purpose of the lab is to enhance the use of equipment available in the home kitchen. Kitchenlab unfolds through guest-hosted cooking sessions, workshops, and discussions in Berlin, Stockholm, Vilnius, Copenhagen and Helsinki. It explores possibilities of the societal shift towards the understanding and consciousness of human species as a balanced part of the ecosystem we live by and within. Kitchenlab aims to gather those interested in working between the studio, the kitchen and the laboratory, because food culture, experimental lab culture and artistic or creative practice overlap.
Kitchenlab at Alt_Cph16 Crosscuts is represented by Mindaugas Gapševičius, who is an artist, researcher and curator based in Berlin, Weimar and Vilnius. He will perform and present four workshops: “My collaboration with bacteria for paper production”, “Mycorrhizal networks or how do I hack plant conversations”, “Ultra low voltage survival kit” and “How do I prepare myself for being cloned”. The purpose of the workshops is to make research-based methods like cloning DNA and producing paper accessible for normal people – all you need is a toolkit that should be available in every kitchen.
