Karin Weissenbrunner is a musicologist, freelance curator and sound artist with special interest in media and sound art, acoustic ecology, improvisation, DIY culture, materiality and hacked/cracked instruments. Drawn to the intricate entanglement of plasticity and composition in experimental turntable practices, her current focus is on records made from materials other than vinyl, following symbiotic approaches and intimate relationships with ecosystems and other-than-human agency. \cb4 Her work at TOP lab is focused on fungalphonic records and the links between sculptural and sonic traits that evolve concurrently in the processes of making, crafting and growing. Her works with beeswax records have been presented in cooperation with Sonoscopia Porto and by Errant Sound and Heroines of Sound in Berlin as part of the collaborative project Wax & Wane with JD Zazie. She is also co-founder of Terrafonica Associacao Cultural in Portugal.
