Healthy Culture: C. Foley & M. Rabinovich

You are very welcome to our next Artist Talk and (maybe) Soup. Artists Caitlin Foley & Misha Rabinovich focus on the maintenance work of a healthy culture.

Friday at 7 PM – 10 PM
@ >top Schillerpalais
Schillerpromenade 4, 12049 Neukölln, Berlin, Germany

Are you worried? Overstimulated? The media provides us with constant news of life-changing inventions that almost never reach us. This contributes to a culture of innovation fatigue and a sense that new technologies are out of the reach of the masses. Caitlin and Misha will talk about their collaborative projects with a focus on the maintenance work of a healthy culture. Inspired by naturally occurring phenomena such as rhizomatic networks of mycelium, the microbiome ecology, and emergent pink noise, their projects aim to provide opportunities for group rejuvenation.

The evening will include a participatory preview of their current Worries Bash project where attendees can contribute and trigger audio with an electroacoustic piñata. This papier-mâché puppet is inspired by piñatas from Mexico, hollow containers designed to be hit and destroyed releasing candy hidden inside. Participants will activate audio recordings of worries as they play with the worries pinata. Caitlin Misha are in Berlin to, among other things, put on an exhibition and event (on August 12th) at sign, CIAT in Kreuzberg.

Caitlin and Misha are artists, curators and educators based in Boston MA. Their work has been exhibited at such venues as EFA Project Space (NYC), Flux Factory (NYC), the New Museum’s Ideas City Festival (NYC), Boston Cyberarts (Boston), Machine Project (LA), the Torrance Art Museum in (LA), the Everson Museum of Art (Syracuse, NY), SIGGRAPH (LA), Artspace (New Haven, CT), High Desert Test Sites HQ (Joshua Tree), Prague Biennale (Czech Republic), KCHUNG Radio (LA) and the Arts Center of the Capital Region (Troy, NY).Misha is an Assistant Professor of Interactive Media and Caitlin is part-time faculty in the Art and Design Department at UMass Lowell.
