MigAA – Creative Un(A)Counting – Call

Creative Un(A)Counting – Call for the new MigAA Laboratory in Vilnius
9-14 December, 2013, gallery “Akademija”, Pilies str. 44/2, Vilnius, Lithuania.

Numeric representation of reality, as ubiquitous as it is, is not being commonly approached as one of the typical creative strategies, perhaps due to the fact that it communicates in many cases a pure factual data leaving other narrative devices aside. However numbers tend to be universally and easily understood in relationship to each other (3 is more than 1, and etc.), along with such cognitive basics as comprehension of size and of the distance. Civilizations are intrinsically numeric. Digital revolution aside, amount of numbers we deal with is dramatically increasing with every new generation. In many cases we, as social beings, are being defined by the numbers.

Vilnius Art Academy is hosting the new Migrating Art Academies laboratory “Creative Un(A)Counting” this December and invites emerging artists to experience Vilnius together with Žilvinas Lilas (GER) and Mindaugas Gapševičius (GER). The aim of this expanded academic encounter is to enhance the understanding of counting as a creative condition, to assist in participants’ engagement with various types of media and to help out in finding a most suitable media combination for the comprehensive narrative delivery.

The list of contributors to the laboratory includes Gintautas Mažeikis (Vytautas Magnus University), Algirdas Javtokas (Vilnius University), Žilvinas Lilas (Academy of Media Arts Cologne), Mindaugas Gapševičius (Migrating Art Academies).

“Creative Un(A)Counting” is organised by Vilnius Art Academy in collaboration with Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association. The laboratory is supported by The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania and the European Commission Culture Programme. Migrating Art Academies is a network for innovation and exchange in arts teaching and research.

Further information and registration to the laboratory is open on http://www.migaa.eu
